Bahai Shrine is found at the center of Haifa City. It is said to be the second holiest shrine of the Baha’i Faith. Before reaching the Shrine, you will first pass through their Immaculate Bahai Gardens, which was perfected in 2001. The Bahai Shrine and Gardens serves as a serene monument to the first leaders of Baha’i Faith. Devotees from different parts of the world would visit this place to give respect to them.
Siyyid `Alí Muḥammad Shírází Babism and believed to be one of the three vital characters of the Baha’i Faith. After his pronouncement, he called himself “Bab”, which means “Gate”. He was shot in front of a firing squad in 1850. His relics were furtively carried to the Holy Land. Originally, his tomb was put-up in a plain six-room stone building. His eldest son was also buried in the shrine.
The Baha’i shrine, along with the shrine and tomb of Baha’u’llah in Acre was proclaimed as a World Heritage Site in 2008 by UNESCO.
The Shrine of the Bab entombs Baha’u’llah’s herald. Decorated with ornamental gold work and flowers found in almost every part of the place, the tomb is indeed a stunning sight to see. The Baha’i Shrine is a mixture of western and eastern type. The granite columns remind you of the traditional Roman architecture. The Corinthian ceilings are similar in style of ancient Greece, and the arches enhance an Orient flavor.
